Seed & Mill's founders - Lisa, Rachel, and Monica - hail from three different countries: Israel, Australia, and the USA respectively. Their paths converged in New York City in 2015, where they discovered a shared passion for food, cooking, and nourishing families with wholesome, high-quality ingredients.

Determined to introduce Americans to the versatility and deliciousness of tahini and halva, the trio opened a small kiosk in New York's bustling Chelsea Market in 2016 - the first store in the US dedicated solely to sesame-based products. There, they welcomed locals and tourists from around the world, fostering connections over nostalgic flavors and introducing new audiences to traditional foods rooted in centuries of culture and history.

Working the counter seven days a week, the Seed & Mill team sampled halva, ground tahini to order, and served up other treats like halva paninis and their iconic tahini soft serve. The enthusiastic response from customers quickly exceeded their expectations.

Soon after the kiosk's success, Seed & Mill built a website and caught the attention of Whole Foods Market, who sought a halva brand with clean, natural ingredients. This marked the birth of the company's retail and e-commerce businesses, which now proudly offer a range of beloved products for chefs and home cooks alike.

Co-founder Rachel, a self-described "food entrepreneur trapped in the body of a media lawyer," found the opportunity to combine her lifelong passion for food with her business acumen. As the daughter of an immigrant, who was the daughter of an immigrant, Rachel is deeply fascinated by the history, culture, and migratory nature of food, as well as its power to bring people together.

A global citizen, Rachel has lived and worked in five different countries, and now resides in New York with her husband, two children, and beloved dachshund. Her diverse experiences and perspectives have shaped her unwavering commitment to sharing the rich, flavorful traditions of sesame-based products with a wide audience.
